Metaball Course
In this Grasshopper course, you will learn how to use the Metaball component in seven different design situations:
1-First, you will learn how to design a series of merging blob buildings using the Metaball custom component.
You will learn how to offset the Metaball curves to create the roofs and then use the Lunchbox plugin to design the frames and windows for the facade.
At the end, you will offset the plan curve to design the entrance.
Duration: 25 minutes.
2- You will learn how to confine the Metaball curves in a rectangle to have more control over the building design.
The charges for the Metaballs will be generated randomly on the rectangle, so you will also learn how to use random points and how to define a singular charge for them.
Duration: 10 minutes.
– Next, you will learn how to make vertical Metaball charges and control the value of the charges with a graph mapper.
This can help you design merging towers by just defining the starting point of the towers.
Duration: 20 minutes.
4- After learning how to use the Metaball component, you can design a tower by defining a series of vertical points and defining the iso-curve point by a circle.
Duration: 10 minutes.
5- Now it’s time to learn how to design merging Metaballs by defining point attractors.
This time, we will use the Dendro plugin to design the voxelized meshes.
You will also learn how to create holes inside a box to use Metaballs to design even more complex facades.
Duration: 12 minutes.
6- The next lesson will help you to design Metaballs by defining a curve.
This will need some more advanced techniques, like dividing the curve and giving non-linear charges to create a nice, smooth building.
Duration: 10 minutes.
7- The last lesson is focused on how you can design Metaball iso-curves by defining a polar array pattern.
This will help you design a parametric wall art by giving you interesting Metaball iso-curves.
Duration: 6 minutes.
