Zahner Factory Parametric Facade

Zahner Factory

The form for the façade by Crawford Architects was derived from metal oxidation patterns inspired by those found on Zahner’s campus. A computer based algorithm converted the sketch’s tonal values into a 3-dimensional digital surface model of the façade.

Developable strips and digital fabricated lightweight architecture

Lightweight Architecture

This research by Francisco Gonzalez-Quintial and Andres Martin-Pastor is mainly focused on the development of a system that would be able to offer the potentiality of constructing free-form surfaces by using developable surfaces.

Shape Design and Analysis of Adaptive Structures Using Grasshopper3d

Adaptive Structures

This paper by Lenka Kormaníková, Eva Kormaníková and Dušan Katunský describes adaptive materials and structures used in architecture. An adaptive shape is designed and analyzed using algorithmic plug-in Grasshopper.

Algorithmic Architectural Forms

Algorithmic Architectural Forms

This paper presents a methodology and software tools for parametric design of complex architectural objects, called digital or algorithmic forms. In order to provide a flexible tool, the proposed design philosophy involves two open source utilities Donkey and MIDAS written in Grasshopper algorithm editor and C++.

Integrated Algorithmic Design

Integrated Algorithmic Design

This thesis by Renata Alves Castelo Branco aims to explore the advantages an algorithmic approach can bring to the design process, and investigate, at the same time, how to bridge the gap between the different tools with which architecture currently operates

Algorithmic Architecture

Algorithmic Architecture

Algorithmic Architecture by Dr. Tony Kotnik discusses subjects like computational design and digital architecture. Recent theories of form in architecture have focused on computational methods of formal exploration and expression.
