UAE Pavilion

The United Arab Emirates pavilion at the 2015 Milan Expo opened today. Bringing the planning principles of the traditional desert city to Milan, the pavilion’s interior of self-shaded streets evokes the experience of the UAE’s ancient communities, while demonstrating the natural energy efficiency of their compact urban form. Mexico Pavilion

Since its first participation in a Universal Exhibition (Philadelphia in 1876), Mexico has always delivered an impressive pavilion that captures the imagination. The fundamental theme of Expo Milano 2015 is sustainability, being as much a driving principle for feeding the world’s population, as a criteria for architectural design, in terms of eco-friendly materials, ease […]

Russia Pavilion

Located on the EXPO’s main street Decumano, the Russian pavilion is a 3,260 square meter building. The structure virtually repeats the given plot of land with an elongated and rather narrow parallelepiped configuration, thrusting forward a dynamic cantilever over the main entrance to the pavilion.(more)

Kuwait Pavilion

The charm of a mysterious desert that captivated visitors, revealing its treasures to them. This was the spell cast by Kuwait, a small Middle Eastern State that successfully meets the challenges intrinsic to an environment so apparently barren, told in a majestic Pavilion located on the Decumanus between Germany and the United States. At the […]

France Pavilion

Theme: “Different Ways of Producing and Providing Food” Concept Parametrichouse: How can we feed the world, today and tomorrow? How can we ensure adequate food for mankind that is of good quality and healthy in the long term? France is focusing on this central issue posed by Expo Milano 2015, with a commitment to participate fully in the discussion, providing answers based on its capabilities […]

Vietnam Pavilion

Parametrichouse: Due to the economy development in the world, people are becoming rich and the standard of living is improving. On the other hand the majority of the population is also suffering from wars and poverty and it is seen increasing with the economic and social development of the society. There is a major motive […]

Tree of Life

Parametrichouse: In 6 months its shows were seen by 14 million people, two-thirds of all visitors to Expo. The video was clicked 800 thousand times on YouTube. The hashtag #treeoflife was more successful than #Christmastree. Just a few of the numbers that demonstrate the success of the Tree of Life. Like the Eiffel Tower, built […]

Italy Pavilion

The design chosen for the Italy Pavilion is the result of an international design competition awarded by Expo 2015 SpA in May, 2013; among 68 participants Nemesi won the competition with Proger and BMS for the engineering and with Prof. Eng. Livio De Santoli for the sustainability. The Italy Pavilion consists of the permanent building […]

Reconfigurable Materials

Reconfigurable Materials

Harvard researchers have developed a general framework to design reconfigurable metamaterials. The design strategy is scale independent, meaning it can be applied to everything from meter-scale architectures to reconfigurable nano-scale systems such as photonic crystals, waveguides and metamaterials to guide heat.

Octahedron 3D Fretwork

Octahedron 3D Fretwork

Octahedron by Alex Fox an amazing woodworking 3D Fretwork, a scroll saw project. In this video you can see the making (Cutting, finishing and assembling) of a geometric plywood sculpture.

ETH Robot Built Pavilion

This shingled timber pavilion was created by masters students on ETH Zurich’s Digital Fabrication course, who developed robotic fabrication techniques to minimise the waste involved in its construction.

Isenberg Business Hub Grasshopper Tutorial

Isenberg Business Hub

In this rhino grasshopper tutorial, we will model the Isenberg School Of Management Business Innovation Hub / BIG . First, we will model the base surface in Rhino and then we will use Grasshopper to model the rotating structure.

Parametric Roof grasshopper tutorial

Parametric Roof

In this Rhino Grasshopper tutorial, we will model a series of shape-changing elements which can be used as a parametric roof. First, we will define 3 points and by changing the location of the points we can make a polyline. We will use the tween curve component to produce the middle curves and then we will thicken them

Parametric Stairs

In this Rhino Grasshopper stair tutorial we will use a simple loft surface to model a series of parametric stairs. First we will model the base curves in Rhino and use the loft command in Grasshopper to make the surface. Then we will use the “Contour” command to make the stairs curves and use an offset component combined with etrusion to finish the model.

Wavy Pattern

In this Rhino Grasshopper tutorial we will model a wavy pattern on a freeform surface. First we will model the base NURB surface and then we will make a planar surface which it’s dimension is related to the surface. We will use Isotrim to make strips on the ground and start modeling the pattern. At the end we will morph the pattern back on to the surface and finish the tutorial.

Pufferfish Twisted Box

In this Rhino Grasshopper pufferfish plugin tutorial we will use the twisted box pipe variable component to make a parametric model. First we will define the inputs and how it works and then we will use the thickness component to extract the center.

Kangaroo Curve Collide Grasshopper

Kangaroo Curve Collide

In this Grasshopper Kangaroo tutorial we will study how we can collide a series of particles with a curve. First we will produce a series of random points and define them as spheres for collision and then we will use curve collide to detect the collison.
