Jason Allemann of JK Brickworks designed this superb perpetual kinetic sculpture depicting the Greek myth of Sisyphus who was condemned to roll an immense boulder up a hill for eternity. In this video he explains how the device works in detail.

Whether it’s being powered by a hand crank or a motor, this Sisyphus LEGO kinetic sculpture is impressive, from the smooth movement of the figure’s body to the myth-driven depictions on the base. Especially excellent: The base opens to reveal the sculpture’s inner mechanics.

Allemann was inspired by a Disney Research Computational Design of Mechanical Characters video, and set out to make a realistic motion kinetic sculpture of his own.
