Parametric Architecture

This investigation will analyse and define the definition for Parametricism. It will analyse and compare multiple parametric theories. Then using case studies to endeavour how parametricism has been used in the design process.

Is what is seen by the public as parametric architecture actually parametric is this the future of architecture?

Jan Harmens, Leeds Metropolitan University

This investigation by Jan Harmens will analyse and define the definition for Parametricism. It will analyse and compare multiple parametric theories. Then using case studies to endeavour how parametricism has been used in the design process.

From this research definition of Parametricism will be assessed to discover whether what is being claimed as parametric architecture is actually parametric not not. This will allow for an avant-garde parametric manifesto to be defined, which will then be used to determine whether the use of this redefined parametricism is the future of architecture.

Strained Grid Shells

In this paper by Gregory Charles Quinn, Chris J K Williams, and Christoph Gengnagel, a detailed comparison is carried out between established as well as novel erection methods for strained grid shells by means of FE simulations and a 3D-scanned scaled physical model in order to evaluate key performance criteria such as bending stresses during erection and the distance between shell nodes and their spatial target geometry.
